Project Overview
This showstopper cafe was created alongside Dan Brunn architecture. Together, we transformed a blank storefront on Melrose into this incredible cafe. Sleek, modern, sophisticated, but with plenty of character to boot, Coffee For Sasquatch is a must visit cafe for anyone in Los Angeles.
The Client’s Vision
It was important when building and designing the cafe that it reflected the identity of the brand. One of the most important components of the brand was the enigmatic Sasquatch figure. Along with it, a warm and clean environment that seemingly drew anyone walking along the street into the space.
The MODAA Approach
- Sleek Polish: The T.I is primarily composed of terrazzo. From flooring, to benches, to countertops, the entire build is composed of the sleek material evoking a modern but inviting atmosphere.
- The Sasquatch: Near the front of the space, a large Sasquatch installation was put in. Built in collaboration with Habitat Horticulture, the silhouette of the quintessential sasquatch is framed in a wall of lush green and can be seen by passerbys.
- Ephemeral Lighting: To carry through a natural lighting feel, we installed a Barissol lighting system. An ambient lighting system, not only does it evoke the natural lighting spilling in from the front, but also highlights a beautiful mural done by artist Hueman at the center of the cafe.
The Experience
One of our more creative builds, this entire process was filled with a professional but electrifying energy. Though a sleek and refined storefront, the eponymous sasquatch symbolized a high level of creativity that emanates throughout the build. Not only is this build a show stopper for its unapologetic personality but for its high end approachability.
