Project Overview
Founded in 1981, Bluenote Jazz began as a one off upscale jazz club in New York. Being one of the first high end contemporary venues in the United States that gave a home to RnB, Jazz, and the Blues, it would only take a few years for the brand to blossom into a nationwide brand. Now, Bluenote looks towards the horizon of global expansion, having presence in Europe, Asia, and South America.
A New Home On The West Coast
We had the pleasure of being hired by the Legeard team to be the general contractor of Bluenote’s newest location in Los Angeles. At its core, our job was simple: ensure that the unmistakenable Bluenote design was executed with the highest attention to detail.
The MODAA Approach
MODAA was tasked with much of the preliminary construction work along with budget and timeline management.
- Structure and form: Tasked with MEP’s, framing, and dry wall from rough to finish, our primary job was setting the highest quality structure, guaranteeing that all finishes would be flawless.
- Design collaboration: The designer of the project brought in their own vendors to work on finishes. Understanding the importance of working collaboratively, we assisted in ensuring that the end product was not only satisfactory but exceptional.
The Experience
An incredibly collaborative project, this was a testament to the importance of knowing when to take a step back vs. get hands on. Though the finishes were primarily done by a separate entity, it is undeniable that the execution of finishes is determined by the quality of the structural work and behind the wall functions. It was our duty to set the foundation of a successful build.
Connecting at Every Corner
Bluenote LA served as an incredible reminder of the importance of connection. The immense amount of collaboration has opened the doors to career long relationships; not only with Bluenote, but the design team, and our fellow contractors. A price can not be placed on what these relationships mean for the future of all of our work.
